This work was created using a long-exposure technique on 8mm film, a method that I have continued to explore and develop since the 1990s. Through this approach, I seek to create moving-image works that function as “drawings made with a brush of light.” An ND filter is attached to an 8mm camera to reduce the amount of light entering the lens, and each frame is then manually cranked and exposed with a slow shutter speed of approximately one to two seconds. During filming, intentional camera movement is introduced, causing the image in each frame to become distorted and fragmented. When projected as a motion picture, much of the fine detail disappears, leaving behind only the overall atmosphere. The result is a distinctive visual texture, characterized by a painterly image quality that preserves mood and sensation rather than precise representation.
